Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th president of the United States by Chief Justice John Roberts. The indoor ceremony, attended by dignitaries from around the world, also saw Vice President James Vance sworn in by Justice Brett Kavanaugh. In his inauguration address, Trump declared, “The golden age of America begins right now.”
Trump didn’t hold back in challenging the previous administration, asserting that a new era has begun. He thanked several former presidents in attendance and outgoing President Joe Biden. “From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer,” Trump proclaimed.
He criticized the previous government for its inability to manage crises both at home and abroad. “We now have a government that cannot manage a simple crisis at home while at the same time stumble into a continuing catalog of catastrophic events abroad,” Trump said. “All of this will change starting today, and it will change very quickly.”
Trump emphasized that his election was a mandate to reverse what he described as a series of betrayals and to restore faith, wealth, democracy, and freedom to the American people. “From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” he declared.
The president also addressed immigration, a major focus of his new administration, criticizing the government for failing to protect law-abiding citizens while providing sanctuary for dangerous criminals. “We have a government that has given unlimited funding to the defense of foreign borders but refuses to defend American borders or, more importantly, its own people,” he said.
Trump concluded his speech by expressing hope that the recent presidential election would be remembered as the greatest and most consequential in the history of the United States.
