Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has formally announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stating he can no longer support its direction given its leadership failures and the impact on Nigeria’s future .
In a resignation letter dated July 30, 2025 and addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 1 in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye explained the decision followed profound reflection—and concluded the party has lost its ability to deliver meaningful progress to Nigerians .
He wrote, “I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement. This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”
Melaye, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in Kogi State during the 2023 elections, noted he can no longer, in good conscience, participate in or endorse the party’s agenda. He requested that his withdrawal be recognized immediately across all levels of party engagement .
Although he did not yet disclose his next political home, his exit comes amid broader realignments in Nigeria’s opposition sphere ahead of the 2027 elections, with many observers anticipating he may join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or similar platforms .
