BREAKING: US Freezes Assets of Eight Nigerians Over Alleged Boko Haram, ISIL Links

The United States government has announced the freezing of assets and properties belonging to eight Nigerians accused of having ties to the Islamic sect Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

According to a document released by the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on February 10, 2026, the individuals were listed under the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List, which blocks their property and interests under US sanctions programs.

The sanctions also extend to Nigerians identified for cybercrime-related offences and other security threats. This move follows recent recommendations by the US Congress for visa bans and asset freezes on persons accused of religious persecution and violations of human rights in Nigeria.

Officials say the action underscores Washington’s commitment to combating terrorism financing and cybercrime, while also pressuring networks linked to extremist groups.
