Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has called on the Federal Government to offer support in tackling the state’s security challenges, stating that what the state needs is help, not a declaration of emergency rule. Alia expressed his belief that the state’s government is capable of managing the security issues, provided it receives the necessary assistance and resources.
Governor Alia highlighted that the security situation in Benue has improved under his administration, with the number of local government areas under attack reduced from 17 to six. This progress, according to him, shows that the state government is making strides in curbing insecurity, but it requires more help to completely overcome the crisis.
In his statement, the governor specifically called for the provision of armored vehicles and other resources to aid security forces in their efforts to expel armed invaders and restore peace to the affected communities. He stressed that these measures would be far more effective than declaring a state of emergency, which he believes would not address the root causes of the insecurity.
Alia’s remarks come as concerns over rising insecurity in Benue continue to grow. The governor’s call for assistance reflects the dire need for the Federal Government’s support in combating violent attacks and restoring normalcy to the state.
