Adeleke, Makinde Move to End Osun-Oyo Boundary Disputes.

Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State have taken steps to resolve long-standing boundary disputes between their states, with particular focus on the tensions between communities in Lagelu (Oyo) and Iwo (Osun) local government areas. These areas have witnessed violent clashes and destruction of property, prompting intervention from traditional rulers, including the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi.

In a meeting held in Ibadan, the governors emphasized the need for peace, urging affected communities to remain calm and adhere to the rule of law. They tasked their respective deputy governors with leading direct engagements and on-site visits to better understand the grievances and foster dialogue with community members.

Although the National Boundary Commission had earlier conducted assessments of the disputed areas, its failure to release the report has fueled continued tension. The governors called on the commission to expedite its findings to aid in resolving the impasse.

Makinde and Adeleke highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between the people of both states, assuring that their administrations are committed to an amicable resolution. They also indicated plans to address other disputed zones, such as those involving the Orolu and Ogbomoso regions.
