In a significant move to boost sports infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the development of two multi-event sports centers in strategic locations within Abuja. This announcement was made during the 11th FCT executive council meeting, presided over by Wike on December 24, 2024.

The acting executive secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Daudu, briefed reporters at the end of the meeting, held at Life Camp, Abuja. He revealed that the new sports centers would feature a variety of facilities, including football pitches, lawn tennis courts, table tennis areas, and indoor sports amenities. These centers aim to complement existing facilities such as the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, the Area 3 Sports Centre, and the Old Parade Ground, providing more recreational options for FCT residents.

“This initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on youth development and the physical and mental well-being of FCT residents. Once completed, these centers will be accessible to all citizens, ensuring they are well-utilized for the benefit of the community,” Daudu stated.

The locations for the new sports centers have been identified, and further details will be shared as the development progresses. This project underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents through improved sports and recreational facilities.
