UK Deports 43 Failed Asylum Seekers, Foreign Offenders to Nigeria and Ghana.

The United Kingdom has deported 43 individuals to Nigeria and Ghana as part of its intensified border enforcement strategy under the “Plan for Change” immigration policy. The deportees include 15 failed asylum seekers, 11 foreign nationals who had completed prison sentences, and seven individuals who returned voluntarily.

This marks the second deportation flight to Nigeria and Ghana since the current UK government assumed office, bringing the total number of returnees to these countries to 87. UK authorities highlighted the growing cooperation between the British government and its counterparts in Accra and Abuja to curb irregular migration and enforce immigration laws.

The UK Home Office emphasized that all deportations are conducted in a “dignified and respectful manner.” Minister for Border Security and Asylum, Angela Eagle, stated, “This flight demonstrates how international partnerships deliver on working people’s priorities for swift returns and secure borders.”

Since the current government took office, more than 24,000 individuals have been deported—a figure representing an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. Deportations of foreign national offenders have also seen a 16% rise, with 3,594 criminals removed from the country.

The UK government continues to strengthen its immigration policies, aiming to restore order to the system, accelerate the return of individuals with no legal right to remain, and reduce reliance on temporary accommodations such as asylum hotels.
