Starlink to Increase Residential Plan to ₦57,000 from May 30.

Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has announced a 50% increase in its monthly subscription fee for Nigerian residential users. Effective May 30, 2025, the monthly cost will rise from ₦38,000 to ₦57,000. For new customers, the new pricing takes effect immediately.

In an email to subscribers, Starlink stated:

“The monthly service price of Residential is increasing to ₦57,000. As a current customer, your monthly service price will increase beginning 30 May 2025. For new customers, the price increase is effective immediately.”

Customers who wish to cancel their service can do so at any time via their account page. Starlink offers a full refund for hardware and service if returned within 30 days of purchase, or a 50% refund on hardware if returned within the last year.

This announcement follows previous attempts by Starlink to adjust its pricing in Nigeria. In October 2024, the company proposed increasing the monthly fee to ₦75,000, but the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) criticized the move as unilateral and in violation of sectoral guidelines, leading to the suspension of the planned hike.

Starlink has cited Nigeria’s inflation and currency instability as key reasons for the new pricing structure. The company ties its price directly to macroeconomic conditions, suggesting that a recovery in the naira’s value could lead to more affordable pricing in the future.

Despite the price increase, Starlink continues to offer high-speed, unlimited data plans, with hardware options including the standard kit priced at ₦590,000 and the new Starlink Mini kit at ₦318,000.
