Nigerian singer Spyro has accused music executive Ubi Franklin of deceit involving a $5,000 performance fee. In a recent interview, Spyro alleged that Franklin used Davido’s name to persuade him to perform at an event in Ghana, promising a $5,000 payment that was never fulfilled.
Spyro recounted that Franklin approached him during Iyanya’s birthday celebration in Ghana, claiming that Davido requested his performance at a party for a $5,000 fee. Despite initial reservations, Spyro agreed but was not compensated after the performance. He expressed frustration over Franklin’s unresponsiveness to his payment inquiries. In response, Ubi Franklin acknowledged the incident but introduced a separate financial matter. He claimed that Spyro owes him ₦10.5 million (10% of a ₦105 million car purchase) for facilitating a car deal.
Franklin suggested that Spyro’s debt offsets the unpaid performance fee, implying a need for reconciliation of both amounts. This public dispute has sparked discussions about transparency and trust within the Nigerian music industry, highlighting the complexities of financial dealings between artists and managers.
