Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has affirmed that residents are free to utilize the Sharia Panel for dispute resolution, emphasizing its role as an alternative mechanism within the bounds of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaking at the 2025 Iftar programme organized by the state government, Governor Makinde addressed misconceptions about the state’s stance on Sharia law. He clarified that his administration supports any initiative aligned with constitutional provisions and highlighted the importance of alternative dispute resolution methods to reduce the burden on conventional courts.

The Governor underscored that while the Sharia Panel offers a voluntary avenue for resolving disputes, the constitutionally recognized courts remain the ultimate arbiters for legal matters requiring enforcement or further clarification. He reiterated his commitment to upholding the Constitution and promoting peaceful coexistence among all residents.

This statement aims to dispel any misunderstandings and reassure the public of the government’s dedication to constitutional adherence and the facilitation of diverse, lawful dispute resolution options.
