This confirmation follows a request from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who emphasized Oluyede’s exceptional leadership capabilities, military experience, and professional integrity. Oluyede had been serving in an acting capacity since October 30, 2024, after the passing of his predecessor, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, in November.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede, a member of the 39th Regular Course of the Nigerian Army, has had an illustrious military career spanning various command positions. Prior to his appointment, he served as the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps in Jaji, Kaduna State. Over the years, he has participated in major military operations, including the ECOMOG mission in Liberia, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi, and Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.

President Tinubu’s nomination letter cited the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Armed Forces Act, which mandate Senate approval for such key appointments. The president expressed confidence that Oluyede’s leadership would strengthen the Nigerian Army’s capacity to address national security challenges and maintain stability.

The Senate’s confirmation underscores Oluyede’s reputation as a seasoned officer who has earned multiple honors, including the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award and the Grand Service Star. His leadership during operations and training programs has significantly contributed to enhancing the army’s operational efficiency.

This development ensures a smooth transition and continuity in the Nigerian military’s leadership, as Oluyede is tasked with steering the army through complex security landscapes and delivering on its mandate of safeguarding the nation.
