Sanwo-Olu to Unveil 10 New State-of-the-Art Ferries in Lagos.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is set to unveil 10 new ferries to enhance water transportation and boost the state’s socio-economic development. This initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to improving the transportation sector and reducing road traffic congestion.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, announced this development during the Joint Citizens Media Engagement Forum in Lagos. He highlighted that these new additions will bring the total number of ferries commissioned by Governor Sanwo-Olu to 25. Omotosho emphasized the quality of the vessels, stating, “These ferries are very good compared to any ferry that you can find anywhere in the world; these ferries were built by our young engineers.”

The introduction of these ferries is part of a broader strategy to integrate multiple modes of transportation within Lagos, thereby reducing travel time and alleviating the strain on road networks. The state government has been actively promoting water transportation as a viable alternative, recognizing its potential to connect various parts of the city efficiently.

In addition to transportation improvements, the Lagos State Government is focusing on enhancing tourism and cultural events. Omotosho noted the success of recent festivities and expressed the administration’s intent to make future celebrations even more vibrant, thereby positioning Lagos as a premier destination for year-end events.

This move underscores the government’s dedication to leveraging local talent and resources in its developmental projects. By commissioning locally built ferries, the administration not only boosts transportation infrastructure but also showcases the capabilities of Nigerian engineers, setting a benchmark for future initiatives.
