In a shocking turn of events, Lawrence Edobor, a 43-year-old fashion designer from Benin City, was brutally murdered and beheaded by suspected ritualists at around 2 am on Friday. Edobor, a well-known fashion designer with a shop in Eweka, was reportedly returning home from a burial ceremony when he was ambushed and killed in Evbuotubu.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing incident, stating, “The deceased attended a funeral ceremony earlier that night. As he walked home around 2 am, he was ambushed by a group of persons suspected to be ritualists. They attacked and killed him, severing his head from his body. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving the headless body on the road.”
The Edo State Security Corps intervened and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, Uwadiae Airebiuwa, 27, who was caught with the victim’s head. During interrogation, Airebiuwa attempted to escape but was ultimately captured.

The Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident and the arrest of Airebiuwa, emphasizing that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the other suspects involved in this heinous crime. Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that the command would leave no stone unturned in bringing all those responsible to justice.
This tragic incident has left the Evbuotubu community in shock and serves as a grim reminder of the need for vigilance and security in our neighborhoods. The Edo State Police urge all young people to seek legitimate means of making money rather than resorting to crime.
