Olabisi Onabanjo University Announces Number of First Class Degree that Will be Awarded in 2025

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) is gearing up for its 34th Convocation Ceremonies, set to take place from January 23 to 31, 2025, at the Main Campus in Ago-Iwoye. This week-long celebration will feature a variety of events, showcasing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.

Kickoff and Initial Activities

The festivities will commence on January 23 with a Press Conference at the University Senate Chamber. This event will set the tone for a week filled with activities celebrating the achievements of the university and its students.

Exciting Lineup of Events

On January 24, the campus will host a Health Walk for staff and students, followed by an Agriculture and Engineering Show. Later in the day, a Special Jumat Service will take place. The Convocation Service is scheduled for January 26 at the Chapel of Abundant Life, Main Campus.

The celebrations will continue with a Convocation Play on January 27 and a Novelty Match on January 28. These events aim to foster a sense of community and pride among students, staff, and alumni.

Degree Award Ceremonies

Bachelor Degrees will be awarded to graduands from various faculties on January 29 and 30. Graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy, and Social Sciences will receive their degrees on January 29. The following day, degrees will be conferred on graduands from the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Agricultural Production and Renewable Resources, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies, and Science.

Grand Finale and Special Honors

The grand finale on January 31 will feature the conferment of Postgraduate Degrees and the Award of Prizes. Additionally, an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science will be conferred on Dr. Adekunle Olubola Hassan, a renowned Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Chief Medical Director of Eye Foundation Hospital Group. The Convocation Lecture, titled “TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures and Future,” will be delivered by Arch. Sunday Echono, the Acting Executive Secretary of TETFund.

Graduation Statistics

A total of 6,066 graduands, including regular students and those from the Centre for Continuing Education programmes, will convoke. The breakdown reveals 114 graduands earned First Class; 1,848 achieved Second Class Upper Division; 3,092 obtained Second Class Lower Division; 707 secured Third Class, and 33 graduands received a pass degree.

Distinguished Guests

The Visitor to the University and Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, will commission some projects at the Main Campus and serve as the Special Guest of Honour. The occasion is expected to attract distinguished academics, government functionaries, captains of industry, and eminent Nigerians from all walks of life.
