NIPOST to Launch Digital Licensing System by Q2 2025.

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has announced plans to transition from an analogue to a fully digital licensing system for logistics companies by the second quarter of 2025. This initiative aims to modernize the licensing process, making it more transparent, efficient, and accessible for businesses operating in Nigeria’s growing e-commerce and delivery sectors. The move is expected to streamline operations and reduce bureaucratic delays that have long plagued the system.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum on e-commerce and digital infrastructure, NIPOST’s Postmaster-General, Tola Odeyemi, emphasized that the new platform will allow applicants to track their license status in real-time and obtain digital certificates. However, businesses that prefer traditional methods will still have the option of receiving physical certificates. Odeyemi noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation strategy, which seeks to enhance service delivery across various sectors.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, also highlighted the importance of integrating NIPOST’s vast network of over 1,000 post offices into the country’s digital economy. By leveraging technology, the government aims to improve logistics infrastructure, particularly in underserved and rural areas. This, in turn, will facilitate smoother operations for businesses that rely on efficient postal and courier services.

Industry experts have welcomed the move, stating that a digital licensing system will improve regulatory compliance and reduce the risks of unregistered logistics operators. Many believe it will also enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global e-commerce landscape by ensuring faster and more secure transactions. With the rapid rise in online shopping, a streamlined licensing process could help logistics firms scale operations and improve service delivery.

As the implementation date approaches, stakeholders in the logistics and e-commerce industries will be keenly watching for further details on how the digital licensing system will work. NIPOST is expected to provide additional guidelines and ensure a smooth transition for existing and new license holders. If successfully implemented, this initiative could mark a significant step forward in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
