In a powerful moment of youth advocacy, Nigerian teenager Joy Ogah symbolically took over the seat of Vice President Kashim Shettima for a day, using the platform to amplify the voices of girls across the country. The symbolic takeover took place on October 21, 2025, as part of a nationwide initiative to promote girl-child education and gender equality.
Joy, a passionate advocate for girls’ rights, addressed key issues affecting young women in Nigeria, including access to quality education, child marriage, and gender-based violence. She called on policymakers to prioritize inclusive policies that empower girls to reach their full potential.
“Girls in Nigeria deserve to be seen, heard, and given equal opportunities to thrive,” Joy declared during her address.
The initiative, supported by the Office of the Vice President and several civil society organizations, aligns with global efforts to mark International Day of the Girl Child and spotlight the importance of youth participation in governance.
