The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will commence nationwide enforcement of tinted glass permits starting October 2, 2025. This directive, confirmed by the Jigawa State Command, marks the end of a grace period that was extended to allow vehicle owners ample time to comply with the new regulations.
Motorists are required to apply for the permit through the Police Specialized Services Automation Portal at possap.gov.ng. . The application process involves creating an account using a valid National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), or Tax Identification Number (TIN). After verifying their account via email, applicants must select the “Tinted Glass Permit” service, upload vehicle details and supporting documents, and make the necessary payment.
Once the application is submitted, vehicle owners will be scheduled for inspection and biometric fingerprint capture at designated Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Departments. In Jigawa State, this biometric process will be conducted free of charge at the State Intelligence Department in Dutse.
The Police have warned against dealing with unauthorized agents or middlemen, emphasizing that the official portal is the only legitimate channel for obtaining permits. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance transparency, improve road safety, and ensure legal compliance among vehicle owners.
Authorities have urged the public to begin registration promptly to avoid penalties once enforcement begins. The move is expected to curb the misuse of tinted windows and reinforce accountability across Nigeria’s roadways.
