NERC: Togo, Niger, Benin Owe Nigeria ₦25bn for Electricity

0

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed that neighboring countries Togo, Niger, and Benin collectively owe Nigeria about ₦25 billion for electricity supplied.

According to the Commission, the debt stems from cross-border power agreements under which Nigeria exports electricity to these nations. NERC emphasized that efforts are ongoing to recover the outstanding payments, while also ensuring that Nigeria’s own domestic power supply obligations are not compromised.

The revelation has sparked debate among stakeholders, with calls for stricter enforcement of payment terms and better management of international electricity trade to safeguard Nigeria’s energy sector.
