Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the Nigerian Senate, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In his resignation letter dated January 30, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 8 in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Nwoko cited deep divisions and factionalization within the party as his primary reasons for departure.

Nwoko expressed his frustration over the party’s internal conflicts, noting that these divisions have made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and advance the collective interests of the people. He highlighted a recent incident on January 29, where top party functionaries engaged in a physical altercation during a Board of Trustees meeting, underscoring the extent of the party’s fragmentation.

Despite his resignation, Nwoko acknowledged the platform the PDP provided him during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, which allowed him to engage directly with his constituents. However, he emphasized that the current party structure in Delta State has hindered his ability to fulfill his campaign promises. He concluded that stepping away from the party was necessary to meet his obligations to the people.

While Nwoko has not formally announced his new political affiliation, there are indications that he is set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources suggest that he has completed arrangements to defect to the APC, although official confirmation is pending.

This development marks a significant shift in Delta State’s political landscape, as Nwoko’s departure from the PDP and potential move to the APC could influence future political dynamics in the region. His decision reflects the ongoing challenges within the PDP and the broader Nigerian political environment.
