The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates. The examination, conducted from November 14 to December 14, 2024, had a total of 86,067 registered candidates, out of which 84,799 sat for the exams. NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the release, highlighting key performance statistics and issues observed during the exams.

According to NECO, 57,114 candidates, representing 67.35%, obtained five credits or more, including Mathematics and English Language. Additionally, 62,929 candidates (75.62%) achieved a credit and above in English Language, while 77,988 candidates (93.93%) secured a credit and above in Mathematics. These results indicate a positive performance trend compared to previous years.

Despite the improvements, cases of examination malpractice were recorded. A total of 6,160 candidates were found guilty of various forms of malpractice, though this marked a 27.7% decline compared to 2023. In response, NECO has recommended the blacklisting of seven supervisors from different states, including Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi, for their involvement in aiding malpractice. Additionally, 14 examination centers—10 in Ogun and four in Oyo—were sanctioned for widespread malpractice.

Candidates who wish to check their results can do so via the NECO result portal. They are required to visit https://results.neco.gov.ng, select the examination year and type, enter their token number and registration details, and then view their results. Tokens for result checking are available for purchase on the NECO website.

NECO has urged candidates to check their results promptly and advised schools and education stakeholders to take note of the performance trends. The council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high examination standards while tackling malpractice. Meanwhile, affected examination centers and supervisors will face disciplinary measures to uphold the integrity of future examinations.
