Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a commercial vehicle loaded with 942 explosives along the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway. The vehicle, which was en route from Nasarawa State to Zamfara State, was stopped on May 3, 2025, during a routine security operation. The explosives were concealed in a sack, and the authorities apprehended a 30-year-old suspect, Nura Sani Muhammad, also known as Nura Hariji, in connection with the illegal shipment.
The seizure highlights the NDLEA’s vigilance and commitment to preventing the illegal movement of dangerous materials across Nigeria. The explosives were intended to reach Zamfara, where security concerns have been ongoing, particularly in relation to armed groups operating in the region. The interception prevents the potential use of these explosives for criminal purposes.
NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has directed that the suspect, along with the explosives, be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution. Marwa commended the efforts of the operatives involved and emphasized that the agency would continue to intensify its operations against all forms of criminal activity.
This operation is part of a broader, ongoing effort by the NDLEA to combat illegal trafficking and ensure national security. The agency’s operations also include the monitoring of drug trafficking and the interception of illicit substances, which often go hand-in-hand with the illegal movement of explosives and other dangerous materials.
The NDLEA remains committed to its mandate of safeguarding the nation by disrupting illegal activities that threaten public safety. The agency continues to monitor and intercept illicit materials across the country, ensuring that such dangerous shipments do not reach their intended destinations.
