Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised the alarm over a fake audio and video clip circulating online that falsely depicts her voice discussing a fabricated blackmail scenario involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Tinubu. In a statement released to the public, she firmly denied the content of the recordings and condemned them as the work of “desperate elements” using voice-cloning technology to mislead Nigerians and tarnish her image.

Describing the incident as a dangerous misuse of artificial intelligence, Akpoti labeled the clip a calculated attempt to damage her reputation, incite public distrust, and sow division in Nigeria’s political space. She also noted that this is not the first time such methods have been used against her, referencing past cloned audio clips impersonating her in conversations with political figures.

In response, the senator has instructed her legal team and security agencies to launch a full investigation into the origin of the cloned recordings. She vowed to ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable under the law, emphasizing the importance of protecting public discourse from digital manipulation and cyber impersonation.

Akpoti called on the public to remain vigilant against disinformation, urging Nigerians to ignore the doctored materials and refrain from spreading unverified content. She warned that the use of cloned voices to influence public perception marks a dangerous trend in the use of technology for political sabotage.
