Natasha Akpoti Appeals N5m Contempt Fine, Challenges Court’s Jurisdiction.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally appealed a N5 million fine imposed on her for contempt of court, questioning the jurisdiction of the trial court that issued the ruling. The fine stemmed from a contempt proceeding initiated against her in an ongoing legal matter.

In her appeal, filed through her legal team, Akpoti argued that the trial court acted beyond its powers by imposing the fine. She maintained that the court failed to adhere to proper legal procedures and that the order was not only excessive but also unlawful. The appeal contends that the ruling violates her right to a fair hearing.

The senator is seeking to have the fine set aside entirely, stating that the trial court lacked the authority to hear the matter in the first place. Her legal team is asking the appellate court to quash the contempt proceedings and nullify all related sanctions.

This legal battle adds to the series of political and legal challenges faced by Senator Akpoti, who represents Kogi Central. Her legal representatives have expressed confidence that the appellate court will uphold justice and correct what they describe as a procedural miscarriage.
