Deadly Mushin Explosion: Military-Grade Grenade Kills One, Injures Three.

A tragic explosion occurred at a scrap metal yard on Taiwo Street in the Idi-Araba area of Mushin, Lagos State. A scavenger attempting to dismantle a military-grade grenade inadvertently triggered the device, resulting in his immediate death and injuring three others nearby.

In response, the Lagos State Police Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit secured the scene. They recovered the remnants of the detonated grenade along with two additional live grenades, which were safely transported to their base for disposal.

Collaborative investigations involving the Nigerian Army’s Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) Squadron and the police are underway to determine how such military-grade explosives ended up in civilian hands. Authorities are committed to uncovering the origin of these devices and preventing similar incidents in the future.

The Lagos State Police Command has urged residents, particularly those involved in scavenging and scrap metal trading, to exercise caution and report any suspicious objects to the nearest police station. This advisory aims to prevent accidental detonations and ensure public safety.

As investigations continue, the community remains on alert, hoping for swift action to address the presence of such dangerous ordnance in civilian areas.
