Death Toll Rises to 56 as Meningitis Hits Kebbi.

An outbreak of meningitis in Kebbi State has claimed at least 56 lives, with health authorities racing to contain the spread of the disease. The outbreak, which has affected several local government areas, has led to an increase in hospital admissions as more residents exhibit symptoms such as fever, neck stiffness, and severe headaches.

The Kebbi State Ministry of Health confirmed that emergency response teams have been deployed to affected areas to provide medical care and vaccinations. Officials attribute the rapid spread to poor vaccination coverage and overcrowded living conditions, which have made it easier for the bacterial infection to transmit among residents.

State officials are working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and other health agencies to curb the outbreak. Public health campaigns are being intensified to raise awareness about preventive measures, including vaccination and improved hygiene practices. Medical teams are also carrying out contact tracing to identify and treat infected individuals early.

Residents have been urged to seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms and to avoid close contact with infected persons. The government has assured that more vaccines and medical supplies will be made available to curb the outbreak and prevent further casualties.
