Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria as president, stating, “I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land and I have what it takes” .
Makinde emphasized that while he believes in his leadership capabilities, any decision to run for president in 2027 would depend on the desires of Nigerians and the direction of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He noted, “Is it what Nigerians are asking for right now? Is it what my party will say we should do? We don’t know; we still have a long time to go” .
He also highlighted the need to strengthen the PDP before considering any presidential aspirations, stating, “We must fix our party; we must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything” .
Regarding the 2027 elections, Makinde remarked that it would be a contest between Nigerians and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), rather than a traditional party face-off, asserting, “The 2027 election won’t be PDP versus APC; it would be Nigerians versus APC” .
He further reflected on his political journey, expressing contentment with his achievements thus far and indicating that any future political moves would be made with careful consideration and accountability .
