“I’ll see you in court”. Maine Governor and Trump Clash Over Transgender Athletes Policy.

A heated exchange between Maine Governor Janet Mills and President Donald Trump took place during a White House meeting, centered on a new executive order restricting transgender women from participating in female sports.

President Trump’s Executive Order 14201, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” directs schools to bar transgender women from competing on female sports teams or risk losing federal funding. When Trump pressed Governor Mills on whether Maine would comply, she responded, “We’ll see you in court.”

Following this confrontation, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights launched an investigation into Maine’s policies on transgender athletes. The probe aims to determine whether Maine’s stance violates federal Title IX regulations.

Mills reaffirmed Maine’s commitment to anti-discrimination protections, stating, “The State of Maine will not be intimidated by the President’s threats.” Attorney General Aaron Frey also pledged to defend the state’s laws in court.

This standoff highlights a broader national debate over transgender rights in sports, with several states facing legal battles over similar policies.
