A tragic road accident occurred on March 30, 2025, along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of nine people. The accident involved a Hummer bus that lost control, reportedly due to excessive speeding. The bus, which was carrying 20 passengers, crashed, and nine individuals died on the spot. The remaining 11 passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Aliyu Ma’aji, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina, confirmed the incident, noting that speeding was the primary cause of the crash. He expressed deep concern over the preventable nature of the accident and called on motorists to exercise caution, particularly during festive periods like the Eid holiday, when traffic is often heavier.

The FRSC continues to warn drivers against reckless driving behaviors such as speeding and overloading, which have been major contributors to fatal accidents across the country. In light of this tragedy, the FRSC has reiterated the importance of road safety campaigns to reduce road fatalities and ensure safer travel for all.

This incident has left the Katsina community in mourning, as authorities work to prevent similar accidents in the future. Road safety measures are being reviewed, and the FRSC has vowed to strengthen enforcement to prevent further tragedies on Nigerian roads.
