The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially acknowledged irregularities in the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), sparking concern among candidates and stakeholders. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Board admitted to “technical hitches” that may have affected the performance of some candidates during the nationwide exercise.
According to JAMB, the issues stemmed from disruptions in server connectivity and malfunctioning biometric verification systems at select centres. These problems led to delays and, in some cases, the cancellation of examination sessions. The Board emphasized that the affected candidates will not be penalized and that measures are being taken to ensure fairness.
JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, assured the public that a thorough audit of all reported incidents is underway. “We are committed to maintaining the credibility of the UTME. Every candidate who experienced genuine difficulty will be given another opportunity to sit for the examination under proper conditions,” he stated.
In response to the development, several civil society groups and education advocates have called for increased transparency and improved oversight of JAMB’s technical infrastructure. Meanwhile, candidates are advised to monitor official JAMB communication channels for updates regarding rescheduled exams and further instructions.
