Dapper Music & Entertainment has formally addressed the explosive allegations of financial exploitation made by its former artists Shallipopi and Muyeez, denying any wrongdoing while emphasizing its commitment to transparency and fairness.
In a detailed statement, the record label clarified that all agreements with its artists were voluntary and mutually negotiated. The company asserted that Shallipopi and his legal team willingly agreed to a 30% management commission, a standard arrangement reflecting the significant investments required to launch and sustain an artist’s career.
Addressing the claims of indefinite earnings tied to the label, Dapper Music categorically denied such accusations. The company stated, “Our contracts solely relate to recordings and opportunities provided during the contract term, which is common industry practice.”
The label also revealed that after Shallipopi’s first album achieved remarkable success, both parties revisited the terms of their agreement. “On October 28, 2024, we revised the terms to provide Mr. Crown Uzama with greater freedom to explore new opportunities. This renegotiation was conducted with full legal representation, and a second agreement was signed voluntarily,” the statement added.
Dapper Music expressed surprise at Shallipopi’s claims, noting its ongoing cooperation with the auditors he engaged. The company described the allegations as disappointing, given its history of fostering successful careers for Nigerian and global artists.
In response to accusations involving Muyeez, Dapper Music dismissed claims that it engaged him as a minor. The label clarified that Muyeez’s contracts were signed by his legal guardian, Moshood Basheer, with full awareness and consent during an official signing ceremony.
The label also claimed to have received threats from legal representatives aiming to damage its reputation through public opinion. It warned that it would pursue legal action to protect its business.
“We are confident that our operations have adhered to the highest standards of integrity, and we are prepared to seek redress in a court of competent jurisdiction,” the company declared.
Dapper Music maintained that it has always prioritized the growth and success of its artists, adding, “These allegations are especially disappointing considering our contributions to building careers that have dominated Nigerian and global music charts.”
