Israeli National Dies in Abuja Hotel Under Unclear Circumstances

A 73-year-old Israeli national, Avi Warshaviak, was found dead on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Corinthia Villa Hotel in the Garki area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The incident has sparked concern and speculation, given the sensitive diplomatic and security implications.

According to reports, Warshaviak was staying at the hotel with his wife when he suddenly developed health complications around 9:51 a.m. He was rushed to Asokoro General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Okorie Emmanuel, reported the incident to the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters at approximately 11:23 a.m. Police officers visited both the hotel and the hospital, documented the scene, and transferred the body to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

While authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, some reports have raised questions about possible foul play, especially given unverified claims of Warshaviak’s alleged ties to intelligence operations. Nigerian security agencies are said to be working with the Israeli Embassy to facilitate consular procedures and further investigation.

This incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Abuja and has reignited conversations about the safety of foreign nationals and the broader implications of international espionage in Nigeria.
