The 17th edition of the Headies Awards, themed Back To Base, took place in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 27, 2025, celebrating the brightest stars in the music industry. The event was filled with emotional moments, electrifying performances, and well-deserved recognitions.
One of the most touching highlights was the Best Street-Hop Artist award, won by the late Mohbad for his song Ask About Me. His widow, Wunmi, son Liam, and brother Audra accepted the plaque on his behalf, with Wunmi delivering a heartfelt speech about Mohbad’s legacy and how their son will one day understand his father’s greatness.
The night also saw Davido and Juma Jux making waves. Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, who recently married Priscilla Ojo, captivated the audience with a live performance that earned praise from Nigerian fans. Meanwhile, Davido’s presence at the event was a major highlight, as he took home the Best Digital Artiste of the Year award.
Other winners included Tems, Rema, Odumodublvck, and Zerry DL, among others. The event was graced by notable figures beyond the entertainment industry, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, actresses Regina Daniels and Nancy Isime, and socialite Cubana Chiefpriest.
Despite the glamour, some attendees expressed disappointment over certain aspects of the awards, including the lack of on-stage presentations for some categories. However, the presence of top artists and the emotional tributes made the night unforgettable.
