Why I won’t return to Tinubu govt — Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a respected political figure and former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has revealed why he has no intention of returning to serve in the current administration. His decision is rooted in deep dissatisfaction with the direction of governance and his inability to perform his advisory role effectively. In several recent interviews, Baba-Ahmed explained the circumstances surrounding his resignation and the broader issues he sees with the government’s handling of national challenges.

One of Baba-Ahmed’s main reasons for stepping away was his view that the Tinubu administration lacks the necessary zeal and commitment to address Nigeria’s pressing problems. He openly criticized the government for worsening conditions across the country, especially in Northern Nigeria. According to him, rather than seeing meaningful efforts to rebuild or reform, he witnessed growing disillusionment and dysfunction.

Despite being appointed as a political adviser in the Office of the Vice President, Baba-Ahmed disclosed that he was not given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully. He admitted that during his time in office, he performed no actual advisory work, raising questions about the sincerity of his appointment. This lack of engagement was a significant factor in his early exit from the administration.

After resigning, President Tinubu reportedly invited Baba-Ahmed for a personal meeting, which he respectfully declined. Baba-Ahmed explained that he did not want to engage in a discussion where he would be compelled to speak hard truths—such as advising the President not to seek re-election in 2027 and to instead back a younger, more capable candidate. He emphasized that remaining silent on critical issues would compromise his principles.

Baba-Ahmed’s stance underscores his deep concerns about the future of Nigeria and the leadership needed to turn things around. His departure from Tinubu’s government reflects a broader sentiment among some political observers who believe that bold, reform-driven leadership is urgently needed. For Baba-Ahmed, returning to a government he believes is not delivering for the people is not an option.
