The Federal Government has announced key decisions aimed at fostering rehabilitation and improving airport security culture following two recent high-profile aviation incidents.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, on Wednesday confirmed that Ibom Air has formally withdrawn its criminal complaint against Comfort Emmanson, a passenger arrested on August 10, 2025, after an inflight altercation. With the withdrawal, she is expected to be released from custody in the coming days, pending formal clearance by the Airport Police Command.
In a related development, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced the six-month flight ban on Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1, to one month. The agency has also dropped criminal complaints against him after he publicly expressed remorse over the incident where he obstructed an aircraft.
As part of the resolution, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will engage KWAM 1 as an Ambassador for Airport Security Protocol, leveraging his influence to promote compliance with safety procedures among travellers.
The Federal Government also announced that ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, earlier sanctioned over a separate operational issue, will have their licences reinstated after serving a one-month suspension and completing a professional reappraisal.
Keyamo further revealed plans for a training retreat for aviation and security personnel to improve skills in handling disruptive passengers and preventing similar incidents in the future.
