FG to Reopen Enugu Airport on Monday After Runway Repairs.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu will reopen for flight operations on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the completion of emergency runway repairs.

The airport was temporarily closed on April 18 due to a significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway. Repair works commenced on April 22 and were initially scheduled to conclude by May 6. However, the rehabilitation was completed ahead of schedule, allowing for an earlier reopening.

Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), expressed appreciation to airport users and stakeholders for their understanding during the closure. She also apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety.

Akanu Ibiam International Airport serves as a vital aviation hub for Nigeria’s South-East region, connecting cities such as Enugu, Abakaliki, Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi. The timely reopening is expected to restore normalcy to air travel and reduce the burden on neighboring airports that had to accommodate diverted flights during the closure.

Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updated flight schedules and further information regarding resumed operations at the airport.
