Reports of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu collapsing in Turkey have circulated widely, sparking speculation about his health. However, the Presidency has clarified that the incident was a brief stumble caused by a poorly laid carpet during a ceremonial parade in Ankara on January 27, 2026.
Tinubu quickly regained his footing, continued with the inspection of the guard of honour, and later attended scheduled bilateral meetings with Turkish officials. Presidential aides emphasized that the President is “hale and hearty”, dismissing rumours of a collapse or health crisis.
The viral clip of the stumble triggered heated debates online, but officials insist the President remains active and fully engaged in his diplomatic mission to strengthen Nigeria–Turkey relations in trade, investment, and security cooperation.
