Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended an invitation to Swedish investors to explore the abundant investment opportunities in Delta State. During a courtesy visit by the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund, on February 4, 2025, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the state’s peaceful environment, strategic location, and rich natural resources as key attractions for potential investors.
Highlighting Delta State’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s oil production, Governor Oborevwori stated, “Delta State is a peaceful place and it is one of the places in Nigeria that produces the crude oil that serves this nation. And we are open to business because it’s a place that is very peaceful.”
The governor also pointed out the state’s robust infrastructure, including three airports: the Asaba International Cargo Airport, the Osubi/Warri Airport, and the Escravos Airport, which serves the coastal oil terminal. These facilities enhance transportation and logistics, making Delta State an attractive destination for business operations.
In response, Ambassador Hahn-Englund acknowledged the longstanding diplomatic relations between Sweden and Nigeria, dating back to 1961. She expressed interest in promoting trade and investment in sectors such as ICT, infrastructure, telecommunications, energy, and transportation. The ambassador emphasized Sweden’s readiness to engage with key Nigerian states to build knowledge and networks, noting that several Swedish companies are already operating in the country.
Governor Oborevwori assured potential investors of high returns on investments, citing the state’s abundant crude oil and gas deposits. He reiterated Delta State’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment, emphasizing the availability of special economic zones offering tax incentives to further attract foreign investments.
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of interest in strengthening economic ties between Delta State and Sweden, with both parties looking forward to fruitful collaborations in the near future.
