U.S. R&B singer Chris Brown has been released on £5 million bail by a London court after facing charges of grievous bodily harm with intent. The case stems from an alleged violent assault in February 2023, involving music producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, central London. According to prosecutors, Brown reportedly attacked Diaw with a bottle before proceeding to punch and kick him—an incident said to have been captured on the club’s CCTV system.
Initially, the court denied Brown’s request for bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and potential flight risk. However, bail was eventually granted under a series of stringent conditions. These include the immediate payment of £4 million, with the remaining £1 million due within a week. The court also imposed movement and communication restrictions to ensure compliance during the judicial process.
As part of the bail terms, Brown must reside at a court-approved address while in the UK. He is required to surrender his passport when not traveling for work-related purposes, such as his ongoing international tour. Additionally, he is strictly forbidden from contacting the alleged victim, re-entering the Tape nightclub, or applying for new travel documents.
Despite the legal troubles, Brown’s upcoming world tour, Breezy Bowl XX, will proceed as scheduled. The tour is set to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam and includes several UK dates, starting with Manchester on June 15. Court officials confirmed that Brown was permitted to travel internationally under specific conditions to fulfill his tour commitments.
Chris Brown is expected to appear again in court on June 20 at Southwark Crown Court. The case continues to attract widespread media attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused and the gravity of the charges involved.
