Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of the state and beyond.
In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol, Mutfwang explained that his decision was driven by the need to find an alternative political platform that would enable him to deliver purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and improved service to the people of Plateau State.

He expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him the opportunity to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process, while also thanking party leaders, members, and supporters for their backing during his time in the party.
The resignation, which takes immediate effect, has sparked speculation about his next political move, with observers suggesting he may align with another major party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Analysts believe this defection could significantly alter Plateau’s political dynamics, weaken PDP’s influence in the state, and potentially strengthen rival parties.
Mutfwang’s exit underscores the fluid nature of Nigerian politics, where defections and realignments often reshape the balance of power in the lead-up to major elections.
