Hon. Justice Azuka, representing Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, was abducted by unidentified gunmen on December 24, 2024, around 9:20 p.m. The incident occurred on Ugwunabampa Road in Onitsha as he was returning home for the Christmas holiday.
In response, the Anambra State Police Command initiated an intensive search operation. On December 26, police operatives from the Inland Town Division recovered the lawmaker’s abandoned vehicle at Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha. The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has directed the rescue team to intensify efforts to locate and safely rescue Hon. Azuka.
As of now, the kidnappers have not contacted the family or authorities with any demands, and Hon. Azuka’s whereabouts remain unknown. The lack of communication from the abductors has heightened concerns among constituents and state officials.
This incident has raised alarm over the security situation in Anambra State, particularly in Onitsha. Residents are calling for enhanced security measures to protect citizens and prevent such occurrences in the future.
