In response, Akpabio’s wife, Unoma Akpabio, defended her husband, dismissing the allegations as baseless and describing him as disciplined. She has filed a N250 billion defamation lawsuit against Akpoti-Uduaghan, seeking damages and a public apology.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has advised Unoma Akpabio to refrain from involving herself in the matter, asserting that the Senate President should address the allegations personally. She maintains that she has concrete evidence to support her claims and is prepared to present them through appropriate legal channels.

The Senate has referred the allegations to its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for investigation, with a report expected within two weeks. This development has sparked discussions on the conduct of public officials and the mechanisms in place to address such serious accusations.
