Nigerian footballer Ahmed Musa has candidly addressed the current state of the Super Eagles, acknowledging that fans are unhappy with the team’s recent performances. As the Super Eagles struggle to find their footing in Group G of the World Cup qualifiers, Musa emphasized the importance of regaining the confidence of Nigerian fans.
In an interview with NewsTelegraph, Musa highlighted the team’s challenges, noting that Nigeria is currently in fifth place, two points behind fourth-placed Lesotho. The top three teams in the group—South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin Republic—are all tied on seven points, leaving Nigeria with a significant deficit to overcome.
Musa, who has over 100 appearances for the Super Eagles, stressed the need for the team to come together and perform well in the World Cup qualifiers. “Most of our fans are just not happy with the Super Eagles, and we just have to regain the confidence of our own fans,” he said.
The winger, who has played for clubs such as CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, believes that the team’s success in the qualifiers is crucial to winning back the fans. “The most important thing is the World Cup qualifiers. We have to see how we can make it as a team and get our fans back behind us,” Musa added.
Musa also acknowledged the challenges posed by the competition, stating, “As you can see, there is no smaller country nowadays, so we just have to stick to our own plans, talk to ourselves. The last time we were at the AFCON, we finished second, so it’s going to be tough, but we are going to do our best to win the trophy for Nigeria.”
Despite the difficulties, Musa remains confident that the Super Eagles can turn things around and make Nigerians proud once again. “We just have to talk to our own boys to give their best. We have to work together as a team and make sure that we do everything possible to make our fans happy,” he concluded.
As the Super Eagles prepare to face their World Cup qualifying opponents, Musa’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of regaining the confidence of Nigerian fans and striving for success on the international stage.
