The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar over accusations of slander.
According to a statement shared on the guild’s official Instagram page, a two-year investigation by a special panel revealed that Halima had been spreading defamatory information about her colleagues, including allegations of extramarital affairs with prominent individuals.
The AGN stated that despite the suspension, Halima will face the National Disciplinary Committee, which will determine her full punishment. During her suspension, she is barred from participating in any AGN activities or filming projects under its jurisdiction. The guild has tasked its national and state chapter task forces with ensuring compliance with the suspension, warning that violations could result in further penalties.
The AGN also mentioned that other unnamed female members are being investigated by the same panel, particularly in connection with allegations involving the Senate President.
Although the suspension is significant, its impact on Halima’s career remains uncertain, as independent producers not affiliated with the guild may still choose to work with her.
